About Bledlow-cum-Saunderton

The Parish Council is divided into three wards: Bledlow, Saunderton and Bledlow Ridge. Bledlow-cum-Saunderton is one of the larger rural parishes in Buckinghamshire in the north-western corner of Wycombe District Council’s area.  To the North West is the border with Oxfordshire and the northern part of the Parish forms part of the Vale of Aylesbury.

The Parish is particularly rich in ancient history, with 14 Scheduled Ancient Monuments. The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway (steam and diesel) passes from its base in Chinnor, through Bledlow towards Princes Risborough.

15 07 16 BcS Parish BoundaryIn addition to an extensive network of public rights of way, the Ridgeway long-distance footpath and the Phoenix Trail offering a traffic free cycle route from Thame to Princes Risborough.  There are also several spectacular areas of scenery, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) at Lodge Hill in the centre of the Parish, and small areas of registered common land, five of which are ponds on Bledlow Ridge.

There is a primary school in Bledlow Ridge, and two village halls, one in Bledlow and the other in Bledlow Ridge, both of which are available for hire. The Parish has many clubs and societies including Cricket Clubs and Tennis Club and more.

Each of the wards has a church: Holy Trinity in Bledlow, St. Paul’s in Bledlow Ridge, and St. Mary and St. Nicholas in Saunderton. There are three pubs: The Lions at Bledlow which often features in Midsummer Murders, The Boot on Bledlow Ridge which is owned by a consortium of local people and The Golden Cross in Saunderton. All serve food.

Two community has two newsletters: The Parish Messenger, distributed monthly to all households in Bledlow and Saunderton, and Contact magazine also distributed monthly to all households in Bledlow Ridge.

Chiltern Railways runs a regular service between London, Marylebone and Birmingham. Trains stop regularly at High Wycombe, Princes Risborough and approximately hourly at Saunderton.
